Answer

# Haptyk vs Klack: which keyboard sound app should you get?

Pick Haptyk if you have a newer Apple silicon MacBook and want sounds that get softer or louder with how hard you hit each key. Pick Klack if you use a desktop Mac, an Intel Mac or an M1 MacBook Air, or want to pay less: $4.99 against Haptyk’s $8.

Haptyk can be tried for 3 days with an email address and gives a 14-day refund. Klack is a Mac App Store app for macOS 15 or later, and its FAQ says there is no trial, with a refund within 14 days of buying instead.

## Why pick Haptyk

Haptyk reads the MacBook’s built-in accelerometer about 1,000 times a second, sorts each key press into soft, medium, hard or slam, and crossfades between real recordings, so a light touch sounds light. Its 16 packs include Holy Panda, Topre, Blue Alps, Buckling Spring and NK Cream. The paid version adds community packs and sensitivity tuning, and Haptyk Labs adds extras like a boom on Enter. It pauses after three minutes without typing so your Mac can sleep.

Supported: MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch with M1 Pro, M1 Max and later, MacBook Air with M2 and later, and the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2. Not supported: the M1 MacBook Air, the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro, Intel Macs and desktop Macs. The app checks this when it opens, before asking for your email.

## Why pick Klack

Klack has no hardware limits beyond macOS 15, so it works on a Mac mini, iMac, Mac Studio or any MacBook that runs it. It has spatial audio, separate key down and key up sounds, tone pad tuning and usage stats, and seven switch sets on its site, from CherryMX Japanese Black to NovelKeys Cream. It also plays mouse clicks, which Haptyk’s page doesn’t mention.

## Check whether your MacBook can run Haptyk

Haptyk checks your Mac when it opens, but you can check before you download it.

1. Click the Apple menu, then **About This Mac**, and read the chip and model.
2. An M1 Pro or M1 Max MacBook Pro, or any M2 or newer MacBook Air or Pro, is on Haptyk’s supported list.
3. An M1 MacBook Air, a 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro, an Intel Mac or a desktop Mac is not. Pick Klack, or another app, instead.

## A third option

Neither app plays scroll or trackpad sounds. If you want those, with a ripple on every click and a screen recorder, Clacky runs on any Mac with macOS 13 or later for $4.99 once. See [Clacky vs Haptyk](https://clacky.app/vs/haptyk/) and [Clacky vs Klack](https://clacky.app/vs/klack/).

## Questions

### Does Haptyk work on an M1 MacBook Air?

No. Haptyk’s page lists the M1 MacBook Air and the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro as not supported.

### Does Haptyk work on Windows?

No. Its page suggests Mechvibes or KeyEcho for Windows.

### Is there another app that follows how hard I type?

Yes. Keyslam ($3.99) and Clank Keys (free) also read the MacBook’s motion sensor. See [the 17-app guide](https://clacky.app/best-keyboard-sound-apps-mac/).
