Answer

# Keeby vs Klack: which keyboard sound app should you choose?

Pick Keeby if your Mac runs macOS 13 or 14, you also want a Windows version, or you like on-screen visualizers such as a notch visualizer and a combo counter. Pick Klack if you’re on macOS 15 or later and want a keyboard-first app with spatial audio and seven named switch sets.

Both cost $4.99 on the Mac App Store, both play mouse clicks as well as keys, both support Family Sharing, and both carry the App Store label Data Not Collected.

## Why pick Keeby

Keeby, by Adrian Angelo Abelarde, lists 12 switch profiles on the App Store, including Gateron Red, Holy Panda, Alps Blue and Topre, plus mouse click sounds. Its visualizers show your typing on screen: in the notch, as keystrokes, as a combo counter or as a bezel. Our 5 November guide, from Keeby’s own site, adds that the site version covers two Macs, keeps keyboard processing on the Mac, goes online for licence checks, and has a Windows version.

It runs on macOS 13 Ventura or later, two versions earlier than Klack.

## Why pick Klack

Klack, by Henrik Ruscon, is one of the best-known keyboard sound apps for the Mac. Its site lists CherryMX Japanese Black, Everglide Crystal Purple, Oreo, Flurples Cardboard, Gateron Milky Yellow, Keychron Super Red and NovelKeys Cream, with spatial audio, separate key down and key up sounds and randomized pitch.

It needs macOS 15 or later and is English only.

## How to choose in a minute

Four questions settle it for most people.

1. Check your macOS version: Apple menu → **About This Mac**. On macOS 13 or 14, Keeby is the one of the two that runs.
2. If you also type on a Windows PC, Keeby has a version for it. Klack is Mac only.
3. If you mostly use headphones and want sounds placed by key, try Klack’s spatial audio.
4. Neither app’s listing mentions a free trial, so read the refund rules on the App Store before buying.

## A third option

Want the trackpad and the scroll wheel to sound good too, with a ripple on every click and a screen recorder? Clacky does that for $4.99 once on macOS 13 or later, after 3 days free with no card. ## Questions

### Does Keeby work on Windows?
