Answer # Where is my Clacky licence key, and how do I activate it? Your Clacky licence key is in the receipt email Polar sends right after you buy, and on the thanks page after checkout. It starts with CLACKY-. To activate it, open Clacky, click I have a key (or open Settings → Licence), paste the key and click Activate. Can’t find the email? Polar’s customer portal has your key too. Any one of them is enough. - **The thanks page** after checkout shows your key with a Copy button, and **Open Clacky & activate** does it in one click. - **Your receipt email from Polar**, sent to the address you typed at checkout. Check spam if you don’t see it. - **Polar’s customer portal** at [polar.sh/clacky/portal](https://polar.sh/clacky/portal). Sign in with the email you bought with, and your key is there. ## Activate Clacky It takes a few seconds and needs an internet connection once. 1. Open Clacky on your Mac. If you don’t have it yet, download it from [clacky.app](https://clacky.app/try/). 2. Click **I have a key** in the window that offers to buy, or open Settings → **Licence** and find the **Licence key** field. 3. Copy your key, then click **Paste** next to the field. 4. Click **Activate**. Settings → Licence now says “Clacky is activated” and shows which Mac it is on. ## If activation doesn’t work Most activation problems are one of these. - Check your internet connection. Activation checks the key with Polar once. - Use Paste rather than typing the key, so no character is missed. - If Clacky says the key is already active on another Mac, free it there with Move to another Mac, or in Polar’s customer portal. Write to Boop Support inside Clacky or email hello@clacky.app. A real person answers. ## What activating sends When you activate, Clacky sends your licence key and your Mac’s model name (like “MacBook Air (M1, 2020)”) to Polar. About once a day it checks the key again with Polar and with clacky.app, which keeps only a one-way hash of your key. It never sends your name, your computer’s name or a serial number. Once activated, Clacky keeps working offline, and a one-time licence never locks for being offline. Polar’s customer portal uses the email you bought with, if you ever need it. ### Can I activate Clacky offline? No. Activation needs a connection once. After that Clacky works offline. ### I lost my licence key. What now? Sign in to Polar’s customer portal with the email you bought with. Your key is there. Clacky’s Settings → Licence has a link to it. ### Do I need to activate again after an update? No. Your key stays activated through every update.
