# Webcam test

Check your camera before a call or a recording: see the picture, its real resolution and frame rate, switch between cameras and save a snapshot. The video stays on this page.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type, click, film or say is uploaded or saved.

It runs right here, on the little Mac. Drag the window, open other apps from the Dock.

## How to test your webcam

1. Press **Start camera** and allow access when your browser asks.
2. You should see yourself. Pick another camera from the list if you have more than one (an iPhone with Continuity Camera shows up here too).
3. Check the **resolution** and **frame rate** under the picture.

## If it doesn’t work

- **Blocked:** allow the camera in the address bar, and in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera for your browser.
- **In use:** quit Zoom, FaceTime, Teams or OBS, then try again.
- **Black picture:** some Macs have a privacy shutter or a camera cover; external cameras may need another USB port.

Make your Mac feel this good all day

Recording yourself? Clacky’s screen recorder puts your camera in a bubble, records your clicks and adds captions, all on your Mac.

## Questions

### Is this webcam test private?

Yes. The video is shown only on this page, in your browser. It’s never recorded, uploaded or saved, and the camera turns off when you press Stop or close the window.

### Why is my webcam blocked on Mac?

macOS asks once per app. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and switch your browser on, then reload this page.

### What resolution is my MacBook camera?

Start the test: it shows the resolution your camera is sending. Recent MacBooks have a 1080p camera; older ones 720p.
