Clacky MCP

MCP is how AI apps use tools. Clacky has an MCP server built in, so Claude, Cursor or Codex can take a screenshot, read text off your screen, record, ping you when a task is done or schedule a post, right on your Mac.

claude mcp add --scope user clacky -- /Applications/Clacky.app/Contents/MacOS/clacky-mcp

What it is

Built into the app

The server is a small helper inside Clacky.app (Contents/MacOS/clacky-mcp). No Node, no extra install.

Off until you turn it on

In Clacky, open Settings → Connect AI tools (MCP). Each group of tools has its own switch.

Your Mac does the work

The helper hands each call to the running Clacky app, which asks you where it should and does the job.

Connect your AI app

Two minutes, once. Clacky shows the same snippets in Settings, with the path to your copy of the app.

Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, then add this to claude_desktop_config.json:

{ "mcpServers": { "clacky": { "command": "/Applications/Clacky.app/Contents/MacOS/clacky-mcp" } } }
  1. 1Save the file and restart Claude.
  2. 2Ask: “Take a screenshot of this window.”

Every tool

27 tools on three servers. Names and parameters exactly as your AI sees them.

On your Mac

The clacky-mcp helper (stdio). Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex.

Privacy and safety

  • No tool reads keystrokes, typed text or your clipboard.
  • The Mac tools never upload anything. Screenshots and recordings stay on your Mac; only the file path (and a small preview) goes to your AI app.
  • Grab Text reads on your Mac with Apple Vision and returns only the text: nothing saved, nothing on the clipboard.
  • Screenshots ask every time unless you turn on “Screenshots without asking”. An image for a post is only read after you allow it.
  • Posting now always asks you in Clacky first. A scheduled post shows you a notification and can be cancelled.
  • Only the social and site tools talk to clacky.app, with your own Clacky sign-in. Your AI never sees a token.
  • The helper talks to the app over a private local socket that only your user can open.

Questions

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol: an open standard that lets AI apps such as Claude, Cursor and Codex call tools. Clacky’s MCP server gives them your Mac’s tools.

Do I need to install anything else?

No. The server is inside Clacky.app. Turn on Settings → Connect AI tools (MCP) and paste one snippet into your AI app.

Does Clacky need to be running?

Yes. The helper passes each call to the open Clacky app. If Clacky is closed or the switch is off, the AI gets a clear “not available” instead.

Can my AI read what I type?

No. No tool reads keystrokes, typed text or the clipboard.

Can it post without me?

Posting now always asks you in Clacky first, and nothing goes out if you say no. Scheduled posts show you a notification and can be cancelled.

Does it work with ChatGPT or Claude on the web?

For the social calendar, yes: add https://clacky.app/api/social/mcp as a custom connector and sign in. The Mac tools need a desktop app (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex).
