Typing test with keyboard sounds
Pick a keyboard sound, start typing, and you have 30 seconds. You get your words per minute and accuracy at the end, and every key you press makes a sound. Free, in your browser, no account.
How it works
- The first key you press starts a 30-second round.
- Words per minute counts correctly typed characters, divided by five (the standard “word”), per minute. Accuracy is the share of keys that were right.
- Pick a sound family above the keyboard: soft and creamy, clacky, a typewriter, and more. They’re the same keyboard sounds as in the Clacky Mac app.
- On a phone or tablet, tap the keys on screen. Tapping has its own leaderboard.
Your typing stays here
What you type never leaves this page. If you want, you can post your score with a nickname to the leaderboard: then only the nickname and the score are sent.
Want these sounds everywhere?
The sounds you hear here are the ones Clacky plays on your Mac, in every app, as you type. Clacky never records which keys you press. Read how keyboard sound apps work, or try Clacky free.
Questions
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 words per minute is a common everyday speed; 60 to 80 is fast; over 100 is very fast. Accuracy matters as much as speed: aim for 95% or more.
How are words per minute calculated?
Every five correctly typed characters count as one word, then it’s scaled to a minute. Thirty seconds at 200 correct characters is 40 words, so 80 words per minute.
Does the test record what I type?
No. Your typing stays in your browser. Only if you post a score does the nickname and score go to the leaderboard.
