Cozy Mac apps for a calmer desktop
Updated 29 October 2026
Short answer: the coziest Mac apps are the ones that sit quietly beside your work. Rusty’s Retirement is an idle farm along the bottom of your screen, Spirit City: Lofi Sessions is a lofi room with focus tools, Noizio plays rain and fire, RunCat Neo and Dockitty put a cat in your menu bar or Dock, and Clacky makes every click and key press sound soft and grows a little harbour town called Clackyland as you work.
Clacky is our app. Every fact about the others comes from their own App Store or Steam page, read on 29 October 2026.

Clacky: soft sounds and a little harbour town
Clacky lives in your menu bar. It plays a soft sound for every click, scroll and key press (37 click sounds and 29 keyboard sounds, from muted pats to creamy thocks) and draws a gentle ripple under your cursor. Clackyland is a little harbour town that grows while you work: your clicks bake cookies at the Cookie Factory, cookies buy looks for your Blip, the small creature who lives there, and the town’s buildings grow the more days you use your Mac.
It also records your screen and takes screenshots, if you want them. $4.99 once for 1 Mac, after a 3-day free trial with no card.

Best for: making the whole Mac feel softer, with a tiny town that grows on the side.
Rusty’s Retirement
An idle farming game made to sit along the bottom of your screen while you work, or as a vertical farm at the side. The farm keeps going on its own, and you check in when you like. $6.99 on Steam, for Mac and Windows.
Best for: a cozy game you barely have to play.
Spirit City: Lofi Sessions
A lofi room with soundscapes like pattering rain and a crackling fire, plus a to-do list, a focus timer, a habit tracker and a journal. $11.99 on Steam. On a Mac it needs macOS 14 Sonoma and Apple silicon (Steam says Intel is not supported).
Best for: a calm study room with focus tools built in.
Noizio
An ambient sound mixer for the Mac with 40+ nature and ambient sounds, a timer, a Pomodoro timer and an alarm, all offline. $9.99 on the Mac App Store, macOS 12 or later.
Best for: rain, a fire or a café in the background while you work.
RunCat Neo
A small cat in your menu bar that runs faster as your Mac’s CPU works harder, so you can see the load at a glance. It also shows memory, battery and network. Free on the Mac App Store, with optional tips, and it needs macOS 26 or later.
Best for: a tiny, useful bit of cute in the menu bar.
Dockitty
A pet cat that is your Dock icon: pet it, feed it by dragging files onto it, bathe it, or let it roam your screen. Free on the Mac App Store, with in-app purchases, macOS 14.6 or later.
Best for: a pet to look after between tasks.
