Answer
How does the Clacky free trial work?
The Clacky free trial gives you every feature for 3 days, starting the first time you open Clacky on a Mac, with no card, no account and no email needed.
When the 3 days are up, Clacky stops playing until you buy it for $4.99 once. Nothing is charged by itself, so there is nothing to cancel, and your settings stay when you buy.
How to start the trial
The trial starts by itself. There is no form to fill in.
- Download Clacky from clacky.app. It needs macOS 13 Ventura or later.
- Open the download, drag Clacky to Applications and open it.
- Follow the short welcome tour and allow Input Monitoring when it asks, so Clacky can hear your clicks.
- That’s it. Your 3 days are running, and Settings → Licence shows how much time is left.
What the trial includes
Everything. The trial is the full app, with no feature held back.
- 37 click sounds, 29 keyboard sounds and 8 scroll tick styles, in every app.
- The click ripple, drawn under every click.
- The screen recorder and its editor (macOS 15 or later).
- The screenshot studio (macOS 14 or later).
- Clackyland, your Blip and Boop’s Cookie Factory.
When the trial ends
After the last day, Clacky is locked: nothing plays, there are no ripples, and the recorder and keyboard sounds stop. Clacky doesn’t charge you, because it never had your card.
To keep it, choose Get Clacky… in the menu-bar menu and pay $4.99 once through Polar. Polar emails you a licence key. In Clacky, click I have a key, paste it and click Activate. Every setting you chose during the trial is still there.
Once per Mac
Each Mac gets one free trial. To keep it that way, Clacky sends an anonymous, one-way ID of your Mac the first time it opens (never your serial number or anything personal). Reinstalling, wiping the Keychain or changing the clock won’t start a second trial.
A trial that an older version of Clacky started keeps the length it began with. The trial also runs without an internet connection: Clacky tells clacky.app about it when it next goes online.
Your email is optional
You can download Clacky without giving an email. If you do leave one on the download form, it is used only for the download link, the setup guide and a few tips during the trial, and every email has an unsubscribe link. The Mac app never sends your email anywhere. More on the privacy page.
