Does Clacky work on macOS 12 Monterey or older?
No. Clacky needs macOS 13 Ventura or later, so it won’t open on macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 11 Big Sur or anything older.
If your Mac can update to macOS 13, update first. If it can’t, KeyEcho is the one keyboard sound app in our 5 November 2026 comparison that lists macOS 12 support (12.4 or later, on the Mac App Store).
Why it won’t open
The app itself says it needs macOS 13.0 or later, and macOS checks that before it opens any app. On Monterey you can download the file, but macOS will refuse to run it. There is no setting or trick around that, and we don’t recommend trying one.
Because the 3-day free trial starts the first time Clacky opens, nothing is used up on an older Mac. Download it again once your Mac runs macOS 13.
Can your Mac update to macOS 13?
- Open the Apple menu → About This Mac to see your Mac’s model and year.
- Compare it with Apple’s list below. Apple’s page for macOS 13 lists these Macs.
- On macOS 12, open System Preferences → Software Update (Monterey still uses System Preferences) and install the newest macOS it offers.
- Back up with Time Machine before a big update.
