Answer
Why does my Clacky receipt say Polar?
Your Clacky receipt says Polar because Polar (polar.sh) runs Clacky’s checkout as its merchant of record: Polar takes the payment, handles the tax, sends the receipt and issues your licence key.
So an email or a charge from Polar for $4.99 (plus any tax where you live) is your Clacky purchase. Clacky itself never sees your card details.
What a merchant of record does
A merchant of record is the company that legally sells the product to you and deals with the payment side. Polar’s own documentation describes Polar as a merchant of record that takes on the liability for international sales taxes and handles the tax filings and payments for the makers it sells for. It says it uses Stripe Tax to work out the tax.
That is why the price on clacky.app is $4.99 before tax. Polar adds sales tax or VAT at checkout where it applies.
What is in your email from Polar
Everything you need to activate Clacky comes from Polar. See where is my licence key?

- Your licence key, which starts with CLACKY-. It is also on the thanks page right after checkout.
- Both go to the email address you typed at checkout. Check spam if you don’t see them.
Find a receipt again
Lost the email? Your receipts and your key stay in Polar’s customer portal.

- In Clacky, Settings → Licence also links there: Your Macs and receipts: Polar customer portal.
What Clacky gets from Polar
Polar shares your email address and order details with Clacky so we can provide your licence and help when something goes wrong. We don’t use them for anything else, and we don’t sell or share them. Polar’s own handling is in Polar’s privacy policy. More on our privacy page.
Refunds and questions
You can get a refund within 7 days of buying (14 days where your local law gives you longer). Email hello@clacky.app, and the refund goes back through Polar. A refund revokes the licence key. Details on refunds.
