Use case
Auto captions on Mac, written on your Mac
Clacky Studio writes captions for your recordings word by word, with the spoken word highlighted, and nothing leaves your Mac. Turn on Captions, pick a look, export.

How to add captions
- Open your recording in Studio (Edit in Studio in the preview, or Edit a Video).
- In the Edit tab, switch on Captions. Studio transcribes the recording on your Mac.
- In the Look tab, pick one of seven caption looks (Clacky, Bold pop, Pill, Karaoke, Outline, Subtle, Clean) and one of five fonts.
- Click Export…, and turn on Also save captions as .srt if you want a subtitle file too.
Captions that stay out of the way
If you click right under a caption, that line moves to the top so it never covers what you are showing. Captions at chooses Auto, Bottom or Top, and words Studio keeps mishearing can be added to its words to recognize.
Questions
- Are my words uploaded to make captions?
- No. Transcription happens on your Mac and nothing leaves it.
- Can I get an .srt subtitle file?
- Yes. Turn on Also save captions as .srt when you export.
- Can I caption videos from other apps?
- Yes. Studio can open any video, and captions come from its sound.
