Answer

Does Clacky work on macOS 15 Sequoia, 26 Tahoe and 27 Golden Gate?

Yes. Clacky works on macOS 15 Sequoia, macOS Tahoe 26 and macOS 27 Golden Gate with everything on: every sound, the click ripple, Clackyland, the screenshot studio and the screen recorder with its Studio editor.

Clacky runs on macOS 13 Ventura or later, so macOS 27 is included. macOS 15 is the version the recorder needs, and our own CPU check ran on macOS 26 (26.7.1), where Clacky used about 1 to 3% of one CPU core in the background.

What works on each version

Captions never leave your Mac on any of these versions. If a language’s model isn’t installed yet, Clacky says so before it starts.

What the recorder adds from macOS 15

On macOS 15 and 26, Apple’s own Screenshot toolbar and QuickTime Player record a microphone only, not the Mac’s sound. There, Clacky’s recorder is the simple way to get the clicks into the video without rerouting your audio. More in screen recording with click sounds.

macOS 27 Golden Gate adds Include System Audio to the Options menu of the ⇧⌘5 Screenshot toolbar, so Apple’s recorder can now capture your Mac’s sound, Clacky’s click sounds included. Clacky’s recorder still adds the camera bubble, pause and resume in one file, and the Studio editor.

  • Record the full screen, one window or an area, with your Mac’s sound (so the click sounds are in the video) and your microphone when you want it.
  • A camera bubble, a 3-2-1 countdown, and Pause and Stop in the notch. Clacky’s own bar, countdown and pill are left out of the video.
  • Pause and resume make one file, saved to Movies › Clacky.
  • The Studio editor: Auto edit (Beta) cuts quiet and zooms in on bursts of clicks, edit by transcript, captions, 9:16 and other shapes, redact, Clean Up Voice and GIF export. Nothing is uploaded.

Notes for macOS 15, 26 and 27

  • Screen Recording reminders. macOS 15 and later can remind you from time to time that an app is allowed to record your screen. That message comes from macOS. Choose to keep allowing Clacky and the recorder and screenshots keep working. Sounds don’t use this permission at all.
  • Silent after a macOS update? On newer macOS an app can start listening without Input Monitoring and then simply hear nothing. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring and check that Clacky is switched on. The full checklist is in keyboard sounds not working on Mac.
  • Headphones. Since Clacky 2.7.15 the sounds follow AirPods when you take them out and put them back in, on every version.
