Screen recording with mouse clicks you can hear and see

A screen recording is easier to follow when viewers see where you click and hear it. Clacky’s recorder captures both, live: a click sound for every press and a ripple under the pointer, together with your Mac’s audio and, if you want, your microphone.

How to do it

The recording is saved to Movies › Clacky and opens in a preview straight away. The first time, macOS asks you to allow Screen & System Audio Recording.

  • Install Clacky and turn on Click Sounds and Click Ripples (both are on from the start).
  • In Studio, click Record. Pick Full Screen, Window or Area in the recorder bar.
  • Leave Mac Audio on, so your clicks are in the video. Add a microphone or the camera bubble if you like.
  • Click Record. After the 3-2-1 countdown, the pill shows the time. Stop from the pill, the notch or the Clacky menu.

With another recorder

The ripple is drawn on the real screen, so it shows in other recorders, calls and streams too. Another recorder records the click sound only when it captures your Mac’s audio. For more on showing clicks, see how to show mouse clicks on Mac.

Then edit less

Open the take in Studio: auto edit cuts the pauses and zooms in on bursts of clicks, and nothing is cut right around a click, so its sound and ripple stay in.

Questions

Does it record system audio?
Yes. Mac Audio is on by default in Clacky’s recorder, so your click sounds and everything your Mac plays are in the video.
Which macOS do I need?
Clacky’s screen recorder needs macOS 15 or later. Click sounds and ripples work on macOS 13 or later.
Is the recording uploaded?
No. It is saved on your Mac, in Movies › Clacky.
