How many Macs can I use Clacky on?
One Clacky licence works on 1 Mac at a time, and you can move it to another Mac whenever you like, for free.
To use Clacky on two Macs at the same time, buy a second licence. Keys bought earlier keep the Macs they came with, which is 2 Macs for keys bought before 28 October 2026.
What to do in each case
Most people only ever need one licence. Here is what fits each situation.

How Clacky counts a Mac
When you click Activate, Clacky sends your key and your Mac’s model name (like “MacBook Air (M1, 2020)”) to Polar, who handle Clacky’s licences. That uses the key’s place for one Mac. The model name is there so you can tell your Macs apart in Polar’s customer portal. Clacky never sends your name, your computer’s name or a serial number.
Settings → Licence shows “Clacky is activated” and which Mac it is on.
Use your licence on a different Mac
Moving takes about a minute. The full guide is how to move your Clacky licence.
- On the old Mac, open Settings → Licence and click Deactivate… next to Move to another Mac, then Deactivate.
- On the new Mac, download Clacky from clacky.app and open it.
- Click I have a key (or open Settings → Licence), paste your key and click Activate.
If the key is already in use
If you try to activate a key that is active on another Mac, Clacky says: “This key is already active on another Mac, or it’s no longer valid. Use Move to Another Mac on that Mac, or free it in your Polar customer portal, then try again.”
The Polar customer portal shows your Macs and lets you free one. Sign in with the email you bought with.
Families and teams
Each Mac that uses Clacky at the same time needs its own licence, so a family with two Macs buys two. Clacky is sold directly at clacky.app, so there is no App Store Family Sharing. Every licence includes every update.
