Answer
How do I move my Clacky licence to a new Mac?
To move your Clacky licence, open Settings → Licence on the old Mac and click Deactivate… next to Move to another Mac, then install Clacky on the new Mac, paste your key and click Activate.
Moving is free and you can do it as often as you like. If the old Mac is gone or won’t start, free it from Polar’s customer portal instead.
Move it in five steps
Keep your licence key handy. It is in your receipt email from Polar and starts with CLACKY-.
- On the old Mac, open Clacky’s menu in the menu bar, choose Settings, then Licence.
- Find Move to another Mac (“Frees this Mac, so your key works on another one.”) and click Deactivate….
- Confirm with Deactivate. Clacky goes quiet on that Mac until it is activated again.
- On the new Mac, download Clacky from clacky.app, drag it to Applications and open it.
- Click I have a key (or open Settings → Licence), paste your key, and click Activate. Settings → Licence now says “Clacky is activated”.
If the old Mac is lost, sold or broken
You can free a Mac without touching it, from Polar’s customer portal.
- Open Polar’s customer portal and sign in with the email you bought Clacky with.
- Find your Clacky licence and the Mac it is active on, listed by model name, and deactivate it.
- On the new Mac, paste your key in Clacky and click Activate.
If Activate says the key is in use
The key is still active on the old Mac. Clacky says: “This key is already active on another Mac, or it’s no longer valid. Use Move to Another Mac on that Mac, or free it in your Polar customer portal, then try again.” Do one of those, then click Activate again.
If it still won’t activate, write to Boop Support inside Clacky or email hello@clacky.app, and Justinas will sort it out.
Your files and settings
Moving the licence moves only the licence. Your recordings are ordinary video files in ~/Movies/Clacky and your screenshots are in ~/Pictures/Clacky Screenshots, so copy them to the new Mac like any other files. See where Clacky saves your files.
Using two Macs at once
A licence bought today is for 1 Mac at a time. For a second Mac in use at the same time, buy a second licence. Keys bought earlier keep the Macs they came with, which is 2 Macs for keys bought before 28 October 2026. More in how many Macs can I use Clacky on?
