Internet speed test
Check your Wi-Fi or internet speed in about 20 seconds: download, upload, ping and jitter, on a live gauge. It runs right in your browser against Cloudflare’s network, with no ads and no sign-up.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type, click, film or say is uploaded or saved.
It runs right here, on the little Mac. Drag the window, open other apps from the Dock.
How it works
- Ping: a dozen tiny requests measure how long a round trip takes. Jitter is how much that time wobbles.
- Download: a few parallel streams pull random test data for about 8 seconds, and the gauge shows Mbps as it arrives.
- Upload: random bytes made on this page are sent back for about 8 seconds.
The test stops early at a data cap, so a run uses at most about 160 MB.
What the numbers mean
- 25 Mbps handles one 4K stream or an HD video call.
- 100 Mbps and up is comfortable for a busy home.
- Ping under 30 ms feels instant; gaming and calls suffer above 100 ms.
Why results are approximate
A browser test measures your whole path: Wi-Fi signal, router, provider and the nearest Cloudflare server, plus the browser itself. Other downloads, a VPN or Low Power Mode lower the result. For the truest number, sit near the router, close other tabs and run it twice.
Questions
Is this speed test accurate?
It’s a good estimate of what your browser gets right now. Results vary with Wi-Fi signal, other traffic, the server and the browser, so run it a couple of times and compare.
Why is my Wi-Fi slower than my plan?
Plans are sold as the speed to your router. Wi-Fi loses some of it through walls and distance, and other devices share it. Try a cable or move closer to the router.
What data does the test send?
Only random bytes made on this page, to Cloudflare’s public speed test server. Nothing of yours is uploaded, and Clacky saves no results.
